How does the future of deep learning look like?
Recently Prof. Dr. Max Welling was host of the ICML Deep Learning workshop. The panel included six global machine learning experts: Juergen Schmidhuber (IDSIA, Switzerland), Yoshua Bengio (University of Montreal), Kevin Murphy (Google), Neil Lawrence (University of Sheffield), Demis Hassabis (Google Deepmind), Yann Lecun (NYU, Facebook).
What can you expect to find out from this talk?
Deep learning has already proved its use and capacity to innovate in fields such as speech recognition, image analysis and natural language processing (NLP). Together the panel speakers debate what are the next in line applications from the field. They also discuss where deep learning cannot and should not be applied.
Next up in the discussion we find out more about ethics challenges surrounding machine learning in companies. How can we reproduce these researches and contribute to making the society better if the data is mostly confidential?
The third question pertains to the AI/deep learning hype and how we can prevent overhyping.
Last but not least, the panel speakers deal with the fear surrounding AI. Some scientists claim that AI will outsmart us on the long-term as well as leave a lot of people unemployed in the near future. Should we have these fears?
